The Team (#3rd Grade #NoFilter)

The Team:

One thing that I am very blessed to have is an amazing team here at DVA!  The move to Arizona would be much more gloomy and dull without these rad peeps.  I know they all truly care for each other and their students, though we have tough times with 8 and 9 year olds excited about Halloween, Christmas, or the end of the day, I know that through the help and teamwork we can all do it while having fun!  I'm also thankful everyone is cool with my "interesting" quirks and such.  I like cats, I am a not-woman, I like creepy-crawlies as pets, I research new technology, Christmas Unicorns, upscale coffee (group in burr-grinders and brewed in a variety of machines), yet they will all (mostly) listen to what I have to say and see my point...Though it isn't what they may enjoy or will naturally discuss.
They have truly shown me a kindness of no one else here in Yuma.  Showing me what to do (Downtown Yuma, Mexico, Cali, etc.), not to do (go up Telegraph pass in the summertime), doing what they say not to do anyways (go up Telegraph pass in the summertime alone at night...) Anyways.  I wanted to give a shout out to them here.  We are a team like no other, and once when school starts up again, seeing the team will be one thing I will look forward to.

Ornament of the Team! (It DOES snow in Yuma!)

Also SmallGrp

I wanted to post on the small group because it had my new favorite Christmas Shirt...Also the peeps are rad!

Also the Crown Friends (Also Beth known as "zee gurlfreind" *insert Romantic-isk French Accent*)

I've realized its December...(the choices I have to make are different!).

Today I was making the choice of what to wear (sweatpants or shorts today) and I just realized it was December 12....Yikes.  It has been a crazy week (I feel that I say that every week....but still, it was!). We had our Christmas programs and it went great...that just meant I had two 12 hour days this week (and another one on Friday for grading.). So it was a long week.  I feel the energy of the students ready for the break.  Teaching is getting more difficult from anxious 8 and 9 year olds excited for Santa, cookies, Santa cookies, and presents.  It's also a huge moment realizing I'm a .5 year teacher already! I still feel like I am student teaching and all that, yet I'm starting to get the hang of it all!   Anyways, 3.5 days away from break!  I'll be back in MN in search of friends, family, and snow!

The looong weekend!

So this marks the last day of school for a bit.  We have the whole week off of school.  Super thankful for that!  I am packing up things and getting ready for the voyage back home!  It should be a pretty great time, so if your in MN and wish to hang, please let me know!  Looking forward to sharing stories, seeing family, and another thing too!

Test day:

Today was a bunch of tests. Math, reading, and an intervention test.  We worked a lot on tests.  One of my students had no motivation and was being really...uncooperative for the reading test.  He took forever, and I had warned him that recess time would be used if he did not finish it up.  He still took his time and wondered around the room, and just wasted his time.  Behold, he had to skip recess to finish up the test.  He then proceeded to rush through half of the test he didn't finish in our whole hour and half reading block, but he finally finished.  The end of the day came, and I readied my grading pen.  I truly think highly of my kids and usually hope all will do well....That said, I thought he was going to do bad, and I was ready for giving him a speech about why we don't rush, why we use our time wisely, how we have to be mature and serious about our tests, otherwise we will get poor grades....95% for the kid who was at first distracted then rushed through. Well played sir, I guess no teachable moment here.

 I need the weekend.

Barista @ The Vertical Church

I've been on a couple of teams at The Vertical Church here.  I play guitar or I volunteer at the coffee shop.  This week was the coffee shop.  When I work there, I am reminded of my job at Caribou or my role as the "education barista" at Crown.  Good times.  My inner barista cringes at the coffee at TVC, however.  The Folgers we make for the free coffee devastates me.  Then the financial question comes in:  Can churches justify brewing high quality coffee for higher cost or should they stick with the ground "ground" known as Folgers?

Can churches justify brewing high quality coffee for higher cost or should they stick with the ground "ground" known as Folgers?

Please feel free to get interactive with this question and comment below (unless your comment is "yes get Starbucks coffee!" because my inner Caribou will metaphorically "kick" you with strong facts and opinions that I've gathered as a barista at the Bou.

Also, until this question is answer, Mr. Klemme will be bringing in his own coffee to enjoy as he serves the Folgers.

The Cloverton Concert.

Cloverton:

So I was able to work at and go to the band Cloverton's at the Vertical Church.  Awesome band with a bunch of cool musicians.  It was great to be able to do that (unfortunately on a school night, but worth the shortened sleep).  I have a few pictures to share of the outside of the Church and the band.  Enjoy and I'm sure the weekend will be enjoyed by all!

The Movies!

Today was Veterans Day off around Yuma so I ended up watching the Peanuts movie. Great cartoon style to a classic! Reminded me of some of the comics my mom use to read with me.

Back to the Land of the Digital!

I've been apologizing a lot...Sorry about that!

Life has taken many turns.  All turns are great ones, many were unexpected, but in the end life is good!  (Like the cellular device).  Teaching is a busy profession, and so I have not had as much time to do blog posts, but I will try to make them short and sweet now...In that, I will try to sum up the past few weeks with pictures and captions and then start "fresh" again here on the blog.  So enjoy the pictures and yeah!

If pictures are worth more than 1,000 words, what would a slow-mo video be in the currency of words? (Just a thought)...

THIS WEEK (Back up to date)

The Looong Weekend:

So we got a long weekend at DVA.  We were suppose to have a work day on Friday, but our kind principle decided to give us an extra day of play, compared to professional development.  Thanks Mrs. Weigel!

So our work week ended on Thursday where we had a half day of kids and half day of staff play-day.
3rd Grade Team
3rd grade (with some photoshop work too!)

We then had 4 days of weekend starting on Friday and ending on Monday (today).  Saturday I went to a Valley Fair type place called "Knots Berry Farm" which has nothing to do with berries....It was fun but very hot day.  We went to Cali but it was still about 100 out.  SO the log ride became my favorite ride from that!  Sunday and Monday were just resting days and getting ready for the kids on Tuesday!

Sorry for the Delay (Yes, I am alive and well)

Sorry for not posting in about a week! It was a very fun, yet busy past two weeks now.

This is an entry from last week, so enjoy this, but know it is for the previous week (that I wrote on the plane while flying so I couldn't post it and then forgot about it...)

Begin entry from 2 weeks ago:

One big aspect that happened was the SUBPLANS.  For those of you teaching, you understand.  For those of you who don't, you will never understand the stress, the work, and the overall fear about handing your 20some students, all filled with differ personalities and behaviors, over to someone else.  I think it will be okay, but I've found I'm very protective and fond of my students.  It will be so hard to leave them and see them go to 4th grade!

End of the quarter...

So this week is the end of our first quarter...What.  It feels like we just got to school! Time flies! I never thought that it would go so quickly.  But it did.  It's also a time where I am excited to be done with all the mistakes and poor choices of organizing my grades, documents, and life, and to start a fresh quarter.

I have finally arrived at the place where I feel like a teacher.  I know the plans, how to read them, and how to teach them. That said, I've made some bad lessons, and know where I still need to work in.  In it all, I am happy for the victories and simply surviving the first year teaching! Or, first quarter!

Minnesota Journey.

So last weekend (still in the past, sorry) I went to MN for my grandmother's memorial service.  In that, I was back for only a few days and so it was a good trip (besides the circumstances) but everything went very well.  In that, I found that visiting friends, family, and seeing old stomping grounds was a very enjoyable time.  I am sad that I couldn't see everyone, but I really wanted to make sure most of my time was spent with family.  That is in a way, why I haven't posted in a while (I wanted to keep my plans secret).  Anyways, sorry if you felt you should have seen me, I will have time in Thanksgiving to do so.  I've been back in Yuma for awhile now so back to the 100 degree weather and sun!

Grandma.

This week has been a busy and crazy week.  The main thing I've needed to write about is the passing of my Grandmother.  For those of you who are friends with my family on Facebook, this is probably not new information, but for some of you this will be.

On Monday (9.14.15) I received a call in the morning from my mother saying that my Grandmother on my father's side passed away in the night.  This was not something that was unexpected, she was up there in age and her health was declining.  I was able to see her before I made the move to AZ in the summer, with the mindset that it would most likely be my last time seeing her here on earth.

In this post, I just wanted to communicate some thoughts and feelings that I have with thinking and reflecting on her and her impact on my life.

My Grandmother was a giver.  Giving gifts was something I remember her doing:  whether a mountain of presents containing a copious quantity dollar tree toys as a young boy...or money to help out with gas on my detour to visit her in her home town of Little Falls, on my trips to my family's cabin...She was always giving.
I lived around 2 hours away from her back home, so visits happened semi often, but it wasn't as much as some people do if you have relatives within 20 or 30 minutes.  In this thought, however, my life has been drastically changed through her generosity, and my late Grandfather who died when I was 5.

There's more to the story than what I am writing right now, but the long story shorten, is that I was able to pay my college debt and have a great start right out of college into the world of a full time job (in this case, teaching!).  This seemly impossible task (The no college debt part) was made possible by my Grandmother.  She paid for much of my college, and, through her generosity, made even this trip to Arizona possible.  I am so thankful for her support, and the path of life I am on has to do with her support.

Me and Grandma At the D&E Klemme Wedding.

Words cannot express my gratitude to my Grandmother.  I wish there was a way to communicate it, but I am unable to type it.  One thing I do wish to say, to all who are reading this, is this: make a difference in the lives of those around you.

My Grandmother is with the Lord now.  She was (and is!) a Godly individual, a selfless individual who's life was lived for those around her, her family.  I am challenged by this. She used her skill, something she was good at (which is giving gifts) and utilized it to impact others (like myself).  The challenge I wanted to communicate to you who call yourselves believers in Christ, is this: what does your love look like?  I think a lot of times we (including myself) get bent out of shape on what we cannot do (the sins) and we don't look at what we CAN do...for others.
"I don't smoke, I don't say mean things, I don't use words that others find offensive"...
Great for me...But in the end, what will that do?  Maybe more years will be added to my life, maybe I will have more friends, but still those things don't last. How you love, how you impact others, that WILL last.  And from the overflow of their joy, more lives will be changed.

How you love, how you impact others, that WILL last.  And from the overflow of their joy, more lives will be changed.

I saw the love of God lived though my Grandmother.  Not in a way where we communicated and had deep theological talks, but in the simplicity of her support.

Through my Grandmother I was able to be funded to go to Crown College,
Through my Grandmother I raised enough money to take a trip to Jerusalem,
Through my Grandmother I was able to make a move to Arizona for a job teaching,
Through my Grandmother I was able to start a payment on a new car.

If you are reading this and we met through Crown College, our Jerusalem Trip, or here in Arizona, much of this was from the love my Grandmother shared with me.

But.

I don't want to just say it was my Grandmother, a better phrase would be as follows:

It was through the overflow of God's love through my Grandmother,  my funding to Crown College was possible,

It was through the overflow of God's love through my Grandmother, my trip to Jerusalem was possible,

It was through the overflow of God's love through my Grandmothermy move to Arizona for a job teaching was possible,

It was through the overflow of God's love through my Grandmother, I was able to start a payment on a new car.

Through the overflow of God's love that I feel from my Grandmother, I hope to continually impact the lives of students around the country and around the world.

My question for you is this: What does your love look like, and are you living it out

1 Corinthians 13:8-10:
"8 Love will never end. But all those gifts will come to an end—even the gift of prophecy, the gift of speaking in different kinds of languages, and the gift of knowledge. These will all end because this knowledge and these prophecies we have are not complete.10 But when perfection comes, the things that are not complete will end."

Photo Problem // Temporary Fix

Hello, so I just noticed that all the photos I put up thus far are like blanks besides the last two posts I made.  Sorry about this...I am currently working on getting them back but until then you can use this link to see the photos I have.

Thunderstorm & Story

The Storm:

So we had a "once in four years" big thunder storm.  It was pretty cool.  It is similar to a Minnesota thunderstorm, except the land is not prepared for the amount of water to be dropped on the streets, so there is a lot of flooding.  I'd like to say I coined a phrase (I'm sure someone else already has though...)  But after the storm Yuma was the "Land of 10,000 puddles!"  It's funny because Minnesota is the land of 10,000 lakes and so I just changed the place and size of the body of water...Get it?

So that was a fun experience.  I got soaked coming back from work and had a though...Other people will be experiencing the same panic / getting soaked as I did...So I decided to stoop out on my porch and watch others running in the rain.  I happen to be on a corner and so there was this couple that essentially thought it was just them and so they were saying things that I don't want to repeat on the internet (in the @&#$%#^$ variety) and running through the rain.  They were surprised that I was out, listening to them.  They apologized and I told them I understood their frustrations, as I experienced it just 10 minutes before them.  Anyways.  It was great to have weather in the 80s.  That phrase is one I never thought would come out of my mouth (or fingers).

Elf on the Shelf:

So one of my students randomly brought up Christmas and another one chimed in about Elf on the Shelf (an elf that moves around based on parents changing it in the night to make it look like a sneaky nocturnal elf that is alive but only moves when the child is sleeping.)  But she told me how she had a sneaky and "silly" elf on the shelf.  His name was Elvis and she said "Mr. Klemme, one time my Elf on the Shelf moved into the sink with one of my Barbies.  The barbie didn't have any clothes on.  He's silly."  I needed to keep composed at school, but it took all of my effort to do so.  It was a hilariously random story to be told in September.

Plane Crash Hike.

Hello.  On Saturday I went on another hike round the mountains.  Essentially the hike is known for a crash of a plane in the 90s and there are still a lot of remains of it.  It was a fun hike, but very up hill (or up-mountain if you will.)  So yes.  Pictures speak louder than words.  Enjoy them.
